Summer 7s Tournament!

Congrats to all on the Spring season!
We have a few updates for you:

  • Sevens practices will start May 31st, see the practice page
  • The game schedule will be updated later
  • Practices will not be on our home pitch—we’ll keep you posted on where they will be
  • Pictures are completely updated—including All Fools. Thanks to Mark & Alena for some great shots!
  • Look above at your menu, there’s a new option called 7’s—click it
  • If you’re lazy and didn’t follow directions on the last bullet—we’re setting up a Summer Sevens Tournament. You heard me! So, maybe now you can follow directions?
  • New to rugby? Come to a practice, we’ll teach you a few things and throw you right into a game. We need players, we’re not too proud to beg.
  • Rumor has it a couple fellas in town want to start a high school rugby team. We think this is great and support all your efforts before you even start planning. If you’re interested in high school rugby, feel free to contact us and we’ll pass you along to the powers that be.
  • If you haven’t already, friend us on Facebook and then share it with everyone you know
  • It’s summer! Drink a beer, eat some brats, play some 7s, wang chung tonight.

Just One Rugger

No matter how well 14 guys are playing—new, experienced, injured, tired, giving their all—the team is weak when it’s down one man. One man could have filled the 15th position. One man could have rotated out with one of our (at least) three injured guys who kept playing. One man could have been there to support a play that would have gotten the extra try needed to win.

One. Man.

Go to practice. Go to games. Play rugby. Drink beer.
It really doesn’t get better than that, so make time to follow through on your commitment. Fourteen other guys are depending on you.

End to the Season

It was a rough end to the season, but you know... we gathered some great new ruggers and the winter break will heal up some of our old boys. If all of us went out and got one new guy to train through the Spring season we would easily sweep Fall 2011 out from underneath each one of the teams we met this season.

Don’t be strangers over the break, enjoy your time away, and let’s plan some regular get togethers to keep ourselves in shape, yeah?

Thanks for another amazing season Flatlanders. Here’s to kickin’ ass and takin’ names at the next one. Cheers.

Great win in Chicago!

Solid work boys, probably the best this team has played all season on Oct 2nd! And an extra shout out to Chris for playing with the Condors vs the Exiles for the C-Side game.

Pics are up from the game, keep an eye out for when I add Mark’s pictures once I get the disc. Also, I think we’ve filled in some of the other games from last season thanks to pics from Devin (thank you Devin)!

Rookies Step Up

That was a good lookin’ game yesterday, with some great efforts by our new ruggers. Keep it up boys! New pics are up for your viewing pleasure.

New Season... New Pics!

Many thanks to Angie for taking pictures of the first game vs Lincoln Park. Last week’s pics are now up for your viewing pleasure (keep an eye out for #4 Bubblegum, just so you can put a face to the name). Great game last week guys, looking forward to an even rowdier one in Peoria on Saturday!

Fall 2010 Schedule is up!

Our schedule is up, and we have a full fall season with the expansion of the Illinois Rugby Union (we now get to share the pitch with Chicago ruggers). Should make for an exciting season, so we hope to see you out supporting your Flatlanders.

Practices start up next week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm. New players are always welcome, no experience needed, we’ll teach you what you need to know. Just show up at the pitch over at Po Boys (1901 S Highcross Rd, Urbana).

Game Cancelled

We’re sorry to say that our game this weekend against White River has been cancelled due to not enough Flatlanders. Hope to see you all out at our next game on May 1st against Springfield.

All Fools Weekend

All Fools tournament at SIU this weekend, updates under schedule (for scores) and pictures. Good weekend boys!

First Game

Welcome back ruggers! Pics of the game against SIU are up for the lookin’, and if you’re in the Carbondale area April 10th, be sure to see us and many others play at the All Fools rugby tournament.

Stay tuned on where practices/games may be relocated to... we hope to use this spring to work on the pitch, clean it up, make it pirty. We’ll keep you posted.

Other reminders: become a fan on facebook and invite all to the games on there, you or anyone you know curious about rugby... stop by a practice anytime, we always welcome new people to play.

Practices

Practices start Thursday March 11th — we’ll be meeting at the pitch for now (see the practice page for a map).

Happy New Year!

Spring schedule is up, so if your lazy winter ass is in dire need of some rugby, keep an eye out for when practices will start up again. We’re looking forward to it!

A great season comes to an end

Thanks to all for a great season. Pics have been posted from our game against the Gentlemen of Dubuque. Be sure to stay tuned for upcoming fun like our spring schedule. Thanks again gang!

Big win for the Flatlanders

Another win for the Flatlanders, but this one gets us the home pitch advantage for the playoffs! Join us on October 31 for round one of the play offs. Til then, there are new pics and a new video for your viewing pleasure.

So yeah...

See that lil facebook button to the left? Go ahead and click on it... if you want email updates on all things Flatlanders you can get them through your facebook account.

Great game this weekend!

Pics are up from a great game this weekend. If you haven’t seen the news piece on us yet, you can see it here: http://www.wicd15.com. I’ll get the actual video loaded once I have it.

I dunno...

No new news is not so good news! I’m pretty sure it was 6 & 10am, but I’m checking to see if it is 6 & 10pm, because we weren’t on at 6am. Will keep you posted!

This just in...

The tentative air date and time is this Thursday (10/8), probably at 6 o'clock and 10 as well as the morning show on Friday. I'll get back to you if that changes.

Pics up from the Illiana Game

Pics are up from our win against Illiana, and stay tuned for our piece on News Channel 15 Tuesday morning... Or if you don’t get up that early like the rest of us we’ll get a copy of it on here. Thanks to all that were out to support the game yesterday! UPDATE: I don’t think the piece aired this morning (Tues Oct 6), so keep an eye out if you’re up early... and maybe not watch WCIA from 6-6:3am like my dumb ass. Regardless, Channel 15 will be getting us a copy of it, that has been confirmed.

Local TV coverage!

That’s right, our local news channel is covering the home game this Saturday for a piece on Flatlanders rugby. So whether you’re a fan of the Flatlanders, a fan of Illiana, a fan of rugby in general, or a fan of being on TV... come on out, we’ll take ya! Game starts at 1pm sharp, so get there early and bring the whole family.

Quad City & Fox Valley Pics

Pics are up from the last two games, both wins! Join us next week at our first away game of the season against Will County Shamrocks.

Old Boys Pics are up

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the U of I vs Old Boys game. We hope to see those 80 freshman at your next game, U of I... Anyway, pics are up, Old Boys have the white running down the side of their jerseys. Enjoy!

Fall Schedule Is Up

That’s it... Fall schedule is up. Check out the schedule page. Thanks!

Last game cancelled

We’re sorry to say our last game was cancelled, so our season has come to end. Thanks so much to the sirs, teams, our fans, and all the new ruggers who stuck it through and made our team stronger.

Game in Peoria

Travel to Peoria to show your love of the Flatlanders at our game vs the Peoria Piggies.
Saturday, May 16th at 1pm:
directions

Game is back in Springfield

Sorry for any confusion, our game is back in Springfield tomorrow at 1pm. Location: http://www.celtsrugby.com/location/index.html

Our Saturday game is at home

Our game originally scheduled for Springfield, IL has moved back to C-U at Lohman Park on the South side of Thomas Payne Elementary School in Urbana, IL. Our game starts at 1pm as usual, but stop out early to check out the U of I women’s rugby game.

The Flatlander shop is now open!

A little bit of everything for men, women, kids, and pets—with 27 items we’re pretty sure you’ll find something you have to have. We’ll keep you posted when new items are released.

Thanks for your support!

Our game has moved locations...

We’re sad to say that our game—which was to be the opener on our new field—has been moved to Lohman Park on the South side of Thomas Payne Elementary School in Urbana, IL. Weather just won’t allow us to get that field good and proper.

We also wanted to let you know this weekend is also the first Illinois Marathon in Champaign-Urbana, and many of our streets will be congested or closed all together. Please check here for schedules and maps so you can navigate better.

Sorry for any inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you at the game tomorrow.

America's Strongest American?

Could the Flatlanders have America’s Strongest American? Watch to find out, with us, to see if Ben Hay won CBS’ newest reality TV idea airing this summer. Read about it more here.
